“The Outcrop” is an attempt to dissolve into space. It is a contextual existence of architecture strongly stuck on the terrain. Rough, ragged, and maybe sort of imperfect. Temporary or permanent, the house offers authentic spaces in and outside, to observe, to internalize and to heal.
Inspired by the rock formations in the area and designed by an artist, “The Sign” may look more ambulant, or even ephemeral, but it is site responsive too. It marks the lieu, alludes to an exceptional atmosphere, and makes the house perceivable from afar.
The project constantly plays off the tension between vanishing and showing up, exhibiting, and disappearing, natural and man-made. The dialectic between the architecture -the house- that blur into landscape and the art -the sculpture- that stands out with all its shine helps enhance the multilayerness of the scheme.
