Two public projects win the WAFX award, and eight projects are finalists.
Following the international jury evaluations at the 17th WAF-World Architecture Festival held this year, eight projects by EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture were named as finalists. Additionally, two significant public projects by EAA, in collaboration with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, won the prestigious WAFX Award.
The award — given to designs and architectural projects addressing global issues such as climate change, health, technology, ethics, and values with an innovative perspective — was won by the “Küçükçekmece Djemevi” project in the “Power and Justice” category, and the urban-scale project “Centipede,” a new revitalization proposal related to Büyükdere Street, in the “Smart Cities” category. Both projects were also selected as finalists in the future projects category.
The EAA Team will once again be presenting a record number of projects at the festival in Singapore from November 6th-8th. Two of these projects are situated along the Albanian coast, where EAA has been actively developing in recent years. Master planned by EAA, these projects are part of a new settlement named Green Coast.
This settlement features a variety of shopping venues, hotels, resorts, residences, social and cultural areas, sports facilities, and extensive communal green spaces. Designed as a coastal village, it aims to capture the distinctive charm and unique characteristics of the Mediterranean in both its architectural and social fabric. Among the finalist projects include “Green Coast G8 Piazza” and “Green Coast Village B-Resort,” each embodying these attributes.
One of the finalist projects of EAA will be built in a unique location on the outskirts of Tbilisi, Georgia. Titled “The Village, British Georgian International School,” this campus will include a collection of fragmented structures designed to bring together different age groups, drawing inspiration from the traditional rural settlements of the region.
Another project that will be presented among the finalists in Singapore is the “Yumuktepe Archaeological Site Covering,” a collaborative effort between EAA and the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. The shelters will protect the discoveries unearthed during the excavations at Yumuktepe mound — a prominent archaeological site in Mersin — from external elements, while also providing a comfortable space for visitors.
Additionally two recently completed projects by EAA have also been named finalists. The “Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum” in the Completed Cultural category, and “Nef Gölköy Residences” in the Completed Housing category.
