The First Guest of “In Conversation With” Series: Ahmet Doğu İpek
With the relaunch of its “In Conversation With” series this year, EAA aims to welcome creative practitioners, makers, and thinkers from different disciplines to its Istanbul and Firenze studios. The series seeks to expand opportunities for intellectual exchange within the office and strengthen the dialogue between team members working within the distinct cultural environments of the two cities.
The first gathering took place at EAA Istanbul in June with artist Ahmet Doğu İpek.
Prominent for his detailed and meditative practice using materials such as watercolor, ink, charcoal, and paper, İpek explores the relationships between the city, nature, memory, repetition, and layers. Working across different scales, his pieces may begin with a microscopic texture, a broad landscape, or a sense of urban density, inviting the viewer into spaces of both material and intellectual depth.
During the event, Ahmet Doğu İpek shared the particulars of his creative process, his relationship with material, and the conceptual background of his works. The presentation continued with a Q&A session that led to an in-depth discussion around architecture, representation, time, surface, and space.
