Antrepo 5 will be third of the three venues in which this year’s Istanbul Biennial will be presented, it was announced today. The other two venues are the Pera Museum and Büyükada Island.
Antrepo 5, located on a prime site on the waterfront in the Tophane district of central Istanbul, is a former warehouse with a built area of 17.700 square metres. Over the last eight years, the building has been undergoing a transformation BY EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture into a museum for the painting and sculpture collection of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum, which is due to open to the public in 2020.
Antrepo 5 replaces the previously announced Istanbul Shipyards, now not among the venues for this year’s biennial, due to the discovery and the need to complete the disposal of asbestos materials determined to be still present in some of the historic buildings.
The 16th Istanbul Biennial is organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) and sponsored by Koç Holding.
